Engaging students while meeting rigorous standards doesn't have to be a tradeoff. Game-based learning, when grounded in thoughtful design, can drive content mastery, persistence, and authentic formative assessment. In this session, participants will explore GPB's (Georgia Public Broadcasting) free collection of K-12 game-based learning resources and examine how game design elements support standards-aligned instruction across content areas. We'll revisit GPB's most widely used classroom games and analyze what makes them effective, then preview two new experiences: FarmTech Quest, which develops agricultural literacy and systems thinking, and Let's Trade, an introduction to international trade and global economic decision-making. All GPB resources come with teacher support materials designed for quick classroom integration, including expansion activities and unplugged options that extend learning beyond the screen. Attendees will leave with practical integration strategies, formative assessment techniques, and direct access to free, standards-aligned resources ready for immediate classroom use.
